Email marketing integration

Verify your Mailchimp audience without exporting it

Connect Mailchimp, pick an audience, and every member is checked against their own mail server. The verdict comes back as a Mailchimp tag, so you can build a segment of safe addresses before your next send.

  • No export, no re-import
  • Catch-all and unknown are free
  • Nothing is ever hard-deleted

How the Mailchimp integration works

  1. 1

    Connect Mailchimp

Sign in with Mailchimp and approve Prime Verifier there. We never see your password.

Or paste an API key from Account, Extras, API keys. Keep the suffix on the end (for example -us14): it tells us which Mailchimp data centre holds your account, and the key does not work without it.

  2. 2

    Choose an audience

Pick the audience you want checked. We pull its addresses and remove duplicates first, so an address listed twice is only verified, and charged, once.

  3. 3

We verify it in the background

Every address goes through the full check: syntax, domain and MX records, disposable and role detection, and a live conversation with the receiving mail server. The run shows in your Bulk Jobs like any other, so you can close the tab.

  4. 4

    Results land in Mailchimp

Each member gets one tag: pv-good, pv-risky, pv-invalid or pv-unknown. Tags are opt-in per run, because tagging is one API call per member and a large audience should not pay for writes you did not ask for.

What each result means

Every address gets exactly one of these, written to Mailchimp as described above.

ResultMeaningCredit
pv-goodThe mailbox was confirmed to exist. Safe to send.1
pv-riskyA catch-all domain: it accepts every address, so the mailbox could not be confirmed either way.Free
pv-invalidThe mailbox does not exist. Sending here earns a hard bounce.1
pv-unknownNo definite answer from the mail server (blocked, greylisted or timed out).Free

Cleaning up Mailchimp

Turn on Remove invalid and those members are unsubscribed from the audience. They are never archived or deleted, so your campaign history and reports stay intact. Disposable addresses can be handled the same way.

Removal is always your choice and never deletes anything. pv-risky and pv-unknown are never removed, because neither proves an address is bad. If a sync fails part way, nothing is written back at all rather than acting on partial results.

Why Mailchimp users verify

Mailchimp watches bounce and abuse rates per account and pauses senders whose numbers spike. Old sign-ups, typed-in addresses and imported lists are where hard bounces come from, so checking the audience before a big send protects the account, not just one campaign.

What it costs

A Mailchimp sync costs exactly what verifying those addresses any other way would: 1 credit per definite answer (valid, invalid or disposable). Catch-all, unknown and error results are free, because none of them confirms anything. Credits never expire, and new accounts get free credits to try it, no card needed. See pricing for packs.

Mailchimp integration FAQ

Do I need to export my Mailchimp audience to a CSV?

No. We read the audience through Mailchimp's API, verify it in the background and write the result back as a tag on each member. There is no file to download or import.

Will Prime Verifier delete contacts from Mailchimp?

No. The most it does is unsubscribe members you chose to remove, and only if you switch Remove invalid on. Nothing is archived or permanently deleted.

How do I send only to verified members?

Create a Mailchimp segment where the tag is pv-good and send to that. pv-risky members are on catch-all domains, which accept every address, so treat them as a separate, lower-volume send.

Why does my API key not connect?

Mailchimp keys end in a data-centre suffix such as -us14. If it is missing, Mailchimp cannot route the request. Copy the whole key, or use Sign in with Mailchimp instead.
