Email verification for car dealerships
A dealership emails the same customer across years: a lead follow-up, the sale, service reminders, recall notices and finally a trade-in offer. Each step relies on an address collected at a different time, by a different person, often in a different system. Verification catches bad addresses when leads arrive and before each campaign, so the sales and service teams are not working from dead records.

Where bad addresses come from
Third-party lead providers and marketplaces
Leads bought or forwarded from listing sites arrive with addresses nobody at the dealership has checked.
Showroom and service-drive paperwork
Addresses typed from a form or read out at the desk pick up typos, and a required field sometimes gets a made-up placeholder just to move on.
Years between visits
A well-kept car may not come back for service for a year or more, and a trade-in campaign may target customers from four or five years ago.
Several stores, several systems
Dealer groups often merge exports from each rooftop's CRM and service system, each with its own data habits.
Where to verify, and what to do with the answer
| Where | How | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Website forms and incoming third-party leads | Real-time API check, or Zapier between the lead source and your CRM | Call or text instead when the email is invalid; treat disposable addresses as low-intent leads. |
| Service reminder and recall lists | Monthly bulk check of the list you are about to send | Remove invalid addresses and have service advisors ask for a current address at the next visit. |
| Trade-in and lease-end campaigns | Bulk check before the send | These lists are the oldest: verify the whole segment first so one campaign does not damage your sending domain. |
| Group-wide campaigns across stores | Verify each store's export the same way before combining them | One store's stale list can hurt the delivery of the whole group's campaign. |
Real-time checks use the email verification API; lists go through bulk verification (CSV or Excel, up to 500,000 addresses per file).
What to watch for in the results
Placeholder and made-up addresses
Addresses invented to get past a required field come back invalid. Track how many each store produces: it shows where the paperwork habit needs fixing.
Old internet-provider addresses
Long-time customers sometimes still have an address at an internet provider that has since closed its email service. Those come back invalid and are worth replacing at the next visit.
Recall notices
A valid address means the mailbox exists, not that the owner read the notice. Keep recall communication on the channels the manufacturer requires.
Every result comes with a quality to act on: good (send), risky (catch-all or unknown) or bad (invalid or disposable), plus a 0-100 risk score and the reason behind it. Read how catch-all detection works.
What it costs
Checking a customer and service list of 25,000 owners needs at most 25,000 credits: $41.67 at pay-as-you-go prices, about $0.001667 per address. Only definite answers (valid, invalid or disposable) use a credit; catch-all, unknown and error results are free, so the same pack often covers more. Credits never expire.

Questions from dealerships and dealer groups
Can we check leads the moment they arrive?
Yes. Call the API from your website form or connect the lead source to your CRM through Zapier, and each new address is checked in about a second.
Do customers receive anything when we verify them?
No. The check stops before any message is sent; nothing reaches the customer's inbox.
How often should the service list be verified?
Before each reminder run if you send monthly, or at least before seasonal campaigns. Customers who have not visited in over a year are the most likely to have a dead address.
We have several stores. Can each use its own account?
Each store can verify its own lists, or one account can verify for the group. What matters is that every store's list is checked the same way before a shared campaign.
